Romney Poised for Presidential Bid?

Governor Mitt Romney says there's one more thing he has to do before making any decision about a bid for the White House.

"I'm gonna get together with my family. We've gone a long way down the road of saying, 'Let's keep the option open.' I've been very active to make sure the option was open. I'm not pretending in any way that this is a new idea springing into my head at this point."

Romney made that statement yesterday at a gathering with Republican party activists in New Hampshire. He said he wants to spend the holidays with his family in Utah, considering a possible run. He's widely expected to make an announcement in early January.

In the meantime, WBUR's Fred Thys looks at how Romney is poised for the presidency.

This program aired on December 22, 2006. The audio for this program is not available.
