By Allan Coukell

Listen to story (Real Audio)

Boston - March 23, 2006 - A National Research Council report out this week says federal standards governing the level of fluoride in drinking water are unsafe, and should be lowered.

The study also looked at a controversial Harvard study linking fluoride and cancer.

As health and science reporter Allan Coukell reports, the debate over the safety of fluoride in water has a long and sorted history.
