Military Families Coping at Home

BOSTON, Mass. - August 31, 2006 - There are more than 2,400 reserve and active duty military personnel from Massachusetts currently in Iraq, according to the Department of Defense.
The troops have left thousands of family members behind who must carry on without them. It's a difficult situation, especially for the thousand or so in the National Guard who, until the Iraq war, were known as "weekend warriors."
For some insight into what families of deployed soldiers are experiencing back home, we'll chronicle one family's story over a series of occasional reports. Today, WBUR's Monica Brady-Myerov looks at how the Scanlon family of Waltham is coping on the eve of deployment.
