Romney's Phone Banks

Mitt Romney has kicked off his campaign for the White House by raising more than $6.5 million dollars at his first official fund raiser.

During a day-long event at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center yesterday, Romney and his supporters took to the telephones to recruit support and money.

The fundraiser came days after Romney filed papers to form a 'presidential exploratory committee" but it followed months during which he "tested the waters" of a possible run.

WBUR's Fred Thys reports's on Romney's efforts to position himself for a presidential run in 2008.

This program aired on January 9, 2007. The audio for this program is not available.
