Patrick to Rejoin RGGI

Governor Deval Patrick is set to announce that Massachusetts will join the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative today.

The agreement between eight states looks to reduce emissions by 10 percent by the year 2015.

Patrick had promised to join RGGI during his campaign.

As part of the plan, states will charge plants for their emissions.

Former Governor Mitt ROmney opted out of the plan because he worried it would raise electricity rates in the state.

Patrick is expected to make the announcement later this afternoon.

This program aired on January 18, 2007. The audio for this program is not available.
