Barrios to Leave Beacon Hill

State Senator Jarrett Barrios is leaving Beacon Hill to become president of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Foundation.

The foundation voted early today to offer Barrios its presidency.

Barrios has been a member of the foundation's board since its inception in 2001. He will succeed Nancy Turnbull, who resigned to return to Harvard University.

The Cambridge democrat has been a vocal opponent of a proposed constitutional amendment to make same sex marriage illegal. He plans to resign from his state senate seat in early July — after the Legislature is scheduled to vote on the amendment.

This program aired on May 22, 2007. The audio for this program is not available.
