Youngest victim of the year killed in Roxbury

Police say an 8-year-old boy was shot and killed late Sunday night when three men came to the front door of his Seaver Street home in Roxbury and opened fire.

LaQuarrie Jefferson is the youngest homicide victim of the year in Boston.

Jefferson was shot in the abdomen and rushed to Boston Medical Center, where he later died.

His death also marks the 31st homicide in the city this year.

At a press conference Monday morning, Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis said the department was investigating "numerous" leads.

Davis also confirmed "there are people in the apartment who are connected to gangs" but it was too early in the investigation to say if the shooting was gang-related violence.

Suffolk County Districy Attorney Daniel Conley said investigators "will continue without pause" until Jefferson's murder is solved.
