Criticism of Bechtel in DC Area

People in metro Washington have been keeping a close eye on Boston's Central Artery Project. A consortium that includes Bechtel, a lead contractor on the Big Dig, has been hired to manage a similar undertaking in the DC area.

It's a 23-mile extension of the Washington Metro to Dulles International Airport, and construction is expected to begin next spring. The project is slated for completion in five years at an estimated cost of about five billion dollars.

But Marc Fisher isn't convinced. A metro columnist for The Washington Post, Fisher recently wrote a column where he called the decision to hire Bechtel for the Dulles job "a good chance to be taken for a ride." He talks about his concerns with WBUR's Bob Oakes.
