Hallmarks of a Firefighter Funeral

Firefighters are part of a family that's founded on honor and tradition. Sadly, many of the "Brotherhood's" traditions come to the fore when a firefighter dies in the line of duty. The bagpipes, bell ringing, and bunting are among the many hallmarks of a firefighter's funeral.

In his 38 years with the Boston Fire Department, including his time as the Commissioner from 2001 through 2006, Paul Christian attended funerals for his fellow firefighters.
He joins us now to talk about the traditions.

This program aired on September 6, 2007. The audio for this program is not available.
