Palmer Positions for Casino

The town of Palmer in western Massachusetts has long been poised to host a casino. 10 years ago, voters in the former manufacturing community first passed a pro-casino referendum.

Then last month, developers who own 150 acres of land near the Palmer exit on the Mass Pike, signed an exclusive deal with Connecticut's Mohegan Sun to build a casino.

Now this week, Governor Deval Patrick has supported licensing casino gambling in the state, and the town is abuzz with anticipation.

WFCR reporter Karen Brown visits the "Day and Night diner" on Main street in Palmer to find out what people are saying on the issue.

This program aired on September 19, 2007. The audio for this program is not available.
