"Air Rights" Over Boston

A highly anticipated, and controversial, construction project in downtown Boston is underway this week.

Columbus Center will be a collection of buildings and parks located two blocks from Copley square in one of the city's last open spaces: the vacant air above the Massachusetts Turnpike.

With little available land in Boston, more developers are considering so-called "air rights" projects. But the delays and cost overruns that bogged down Columbus Center are driving many financiers away.

WBUR's Kevin Donovan reports on the state "air rights" development in the city.

This program aired on October 11, 2007. The audio for this program is not available.
