"Not Just Another Statistic"

The number of homicides in Boston continues to rise this year. The city just marked its 58th death, a 22-year-old man killed in a shooting over the weekend in Dorchester.

But it's the recent death of a 13-year-old boy, an innocent bystander, which has unnerved people in the city. Steven Odom was shot in the head just feet away from his home in Dorchester on his way home from playing basketball.

His parents, Ron and Kim Odom, refuse to let Steven become just another homicide statistic. WBUR's Bob Oakes visited them at their Dorchester home and has this conversation.

WBUR's Sarah Bush produced this interview and WBUR's Ken George created the web elements.

This program aired on October 23, 2007. The audio for this program is not available.
