Songs of the Sox

Every time the Boston Red Sox win a game at Fenway Park, fans hear the familiar strains of the song, "Dirty Water" by the Standells.

So, there's no song more appropriate to play today, as the team holds its parade and rally, victorious in the 2007 World Series.

Joining WBUR's Bob Oakes to talk about "Dirty Water" and other songs linked to the Red Sox are Chuck Burgess and Bill Nowlin. They're authors of the new book, "Love That Dirty Water! The Standells And The Improbable Red Sox Victory Anthem."

WBUR's Sarah Bush produced this interview, with help from Sarah Hunter of the Boston University Music Library.

This program aired on October 30, 2007. The audio for this program is not available.
