Boston Foundation Pushes Pilot Schools

The Boston Foundation is working to revive the pilot school movement in the city.

The Boston Foundation says it hopes $840,000 in grants will boost the number of pilot schools in Boston by 35 percent.

The city's new Superintendent of schools Carol Johnson says she intends to move forward to create seven new pilot schools.

Pilot school supporters say the model often improves student performance, but some teachers oppose the switch and favor retaining union rights.
