Bhutto Remembered Locally

Boston's Pakistani community is mourning the loss of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto.

Benazir Bhutto visited Boston a few times each year during her almost 10-year exile from Pakistan. She met with members of the small but influential community of Pakistani doctors, engineers and C.E.O.s.

Tahir Chaudrey heads the Pakistan Association of Greater Boston and met Bhuto at a small dinner party earlier this year.

"Everybody thinks this is going to be a huge step backwards for democracy in Paikistan and a stable situation," Chaudrey said.

Bhutto, who studied at Harvard in the 1970s, made frequent low-profile visits to Boston to visit with college friends.
