Massachusetts has long held a special place in presidential politics, partly because of the long political tradition here and partly because of simple geography.

Our proximity to New Hampshire and the first presidential primary there has given presidential candidates from the Bay State an advantage.

The state has produced seven presidential contenders since the 1950's, including the 2008 "favorite son," Republican former Governor Mitt Romney.
