Patrick to Name Education Secretary

Governor Deval Patrick is expected to name his first education secretary today. The position was created to help steer one of the governor's top priorities.

A State House source says Paul Reville will be the state's education secretary. In this new position, he'll coordinate all levels of public education. Reville will also help craft a reform plan using recommendations from a broad working group that are expected this spring.

This won't be the first time Reville has shaped the state's education strategy. He was an architect of the current law that aims to boost student achievement. Reville will remain as chairman of the board that oversees public schools until July 1, when funding for the secretary's office begins.

Patrick will announce several other appointments today, including sending his education advisor, Dana Mohler-Faria to the board of education.

This program aired on March 11, 2008. The audio for this program is not available.
