State Sen. Wilkerson Ousted in Primary

State Senator Dianne Wilkerson of Boston will not be returning to Beacon Hill.

Wilkerson was defeated in the Democratic primary by Sonia Chang-Diaz. Wilkerson has been hurt by a number of self-inflicted blunders over the years. She recently agreed to pay a $10,000 fine and forgo about $30,000 in debts she said her political committee owed her after acknowledging she failed to keep proper campaign records from 2000 to 2004.

Wilkerson has served in the Senate since 1993.

Retired firefighter Kenneth Donnelly defeated selectman John Hurd in the race to succeed state Senator James Marzilli of Arlington. Marzilli withdrew from the race after being charged with sexually harassing four women in Lowell earlier this year.

In Springfield, incumbent state Representative Benjamin Swan survived a challenge from two Democrats in the primary.
