Kennedy, Hair Thinning, Talks Politics

Sen. Edward Kennedy wants Congress to ensure that any financial bailout package includes accountability for Wall Street and full disclosure for the American people.

WBUR's Monica Brady-Myerov says Kennedy appeared on the lawn of his home in Hyannis Port on Tuesday looking strong, but the chemotherapy he's undergoing for a brain tumor has thinned his hair considerably in the back.

Kennedy also praised Congress for passing mental health legislation that treats psychiatric issues the same as physical ailments, calling it "the most important healthcare legislation passed in recent times."

The Massachusetts Democrat hosted Chilean President Michelle Bachelet at his Cape Cod home Tuesday as he continues to improve after summer surgery for a malignant brain tumor.

Bachelet gave the senator her country's highest civilian award in recognition of his opposition to the country's 1973 government overthrow and work to cut off military aid to dictator Augusto Pinochet.

Bachelet is in the U.S. for meetings at the United Nations and a speech at Harvard's John F. Kennedy School of Government.

This program aired on September 23, 2008. The audio for this program is not available.
