Local Doctor on Front Lines

BOSTON, Mass. - January 14, 2008 - Polls from the early presidential primary races show that nearly five years on, the war in Iraq has been pushed aside in American minds, to issues like the economy and immigration. But for those with family members serving in Iraq, or those on the front lines, the war remains very real.
When Dr. Cameron Wright's son was sent to Iraq to fight with the Marines, the thoracic surgeon from Massachusetts General Hospital decided he too had to take action. So at 52-years-old, Dr. Wright joined the Army Reserves for the first time, and in November was deployed to Anbar Province, where he's been performing general surgery. We spent time with Dr. Wright on his last day at MGH, before he was deployed.
But Dr. Wright decided to take his skills to the war front, where his job is now to care for American soldiers and Iraqis. Today we've reached Dr. Wright on the phone from his military base in Iraq.
