Candidates Ramp Up Campaigns in New Hampshire
By Abigail Beshkin

Listen to story (Real Audio)

BOSTON - October 14, 2008 - With exactly three weeks until election day, the candidates are spending this week focusing on a key battleground state, New Hampshire.

WBUR's Abigail Beshkin has details.

Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Biden spent Columbus Day in Rochester and Manchester.

Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin will make her first New Hampshire campaign stop tomorrow.

And Barack Obama now says he'll host a community gathering in Londonderry on Thursday to talk about the economy.

Recent polls show Obama leading John McCain by a wide margin in New Hampshire. But university of New Hampshire political scientist Dante Scala says the Granite State could again be up for grabs.

SCALA: If the national tide recedes for the Dems then New Hampshire gets back on the table because it is a state where it is a state where John McCain has done well in the past and he was polling pretty well before these last few weeks came along.

Meantime, McCain is spending much of this week in another battleground state, Pennsylvania.
