Boston Globe Cuts 50 Full-Time Positions

By Monica Brady-Myerov (WBUR)More cuts at the Boston Globe -- seven full-time newsroom staffers were laid off Monday.

The move came after 20 part-timers were let go last Friday and after about two dozen journalists had accepted the Globe's latest buyout offer. But its parent company, the New York Times, said that wasn't enough and more reductions were necessary.

In this latest round of downsizing, the Boston Globe has lost the equivalent of 50 full-time positions through buyouts and layoffs. In previous years, the Globe has offered buyouts with the threat of layoffs, but it’s the first time in recent memory the Globe has proceeded with layoffs. 594
