Transportation Vote In Mass. House Shows GOP Rift

A bill to overhaul the Massachusetts transportation system is revealing rifts in the state's Republican Party.

After the Massachusetts House approved the bill, Republican leader Rep. Brad Jones hailed it as a "step in the right direction" that will save the state hundreds of millions of dollars over the next 20 years.

Hours later, Massachusetts Republican Party Chairwoman Jennifer Nassour fired off her own statement declaring the legislation "a bad bill."

While acknowledging some money-saving GOP amendments, Nassour said the final bill falls short of eliminating waste and inefficiency in state government.

The House and Senate versions of the bill now head to a committee charged with hammering out a compromise version.
