Before Boston firefighters can collect four years worth of raises awarded to them in arbitration earlier this week, the Boston City Council gets to weigh in.

Funding of the $74 million deal is subject to council approval. It would be unusual for the city council to reject a union contract. But, in light of major service cuts planned in a difficult budget year, some councilors are at least questioning it.

Former Boston City Council Larry DiCara, now an attorney, joined WBUR Thursday to talk about the decision facing the city councilors.

This program aired on April 22, 2010.
