Pedroia Fouls Ball Off Foot, Leaves Game

Dustin Pedroia was removed from the Boston Red Sox game at San Francisco in the top of the third inning Friday night after he fouled a ball off his left foot.

Pedroia was examined by an athletic trainer and checked on by manager Terry Francona, but finished the at-bat to draw a leadoff walk from Jonathan Sanchez. Pedroia was then lifted at first and Mike Cameron entered as a pinch-runner.

It was a tough blow for Boston, which arrived in the Bay Area at 4 a.m. after a 13-11, 10-inning win at Colorado on Thursday night. Pedroia went 5 for 5 with a career-high three home runs, including a go-ahead two-run drive in the 10th.
