Mass. Voters Re-Rlect U.S. Rep. Niki Tsongas

Voters in Massachusetts' 5th Congressional District have re-elected U.S. Rep. Niki Tsongas to her second full term, rejecting a challenge by GOP newcomer Jon Golnik.

The Lowell Democrat had been seen as vulnerable in part because the district is one of the state's more conservative. When Republican Scott Brown ran for U.S. Senate in January's special election, he captured 57 percent of the district's voters.

But after coming out on top of a four-way Republican primary, Golnik, a reseller of Boston College merchandise and former foreign currency trader, had trouble capitalizing on the win and raising enough money to match Tsongas.

The 45-year-old Carlisle resident had portrayed Tsongas as a lockstep Democratic foot soldier, but Tsongas' campaign said she took nothing for granted.
