U.S. Rep. Olver Re-Elected In WMass District

Democrat John Olver has been re-elected to another term in Massachusetts 1st Congressional District.

The 74-year-old Olver defeated Republican William Gunn of Ware and independent candidate Michael Engel of Southampton in Tuesday's voting.

Olver won a special election to succeed the late U.S. Rep. Silvio Conte in 1991 and the Amherst Democrat has now been returned to Congress 10 times.

The first district is the largest geographically in the state, stretching from the Berkshires to the central Massachusetts cities of Gardner and Fitchburg.

Gunn called for lower federal spending and the repeal of the national health care reform law.
