Genzyme Makes First Wave Of Job Cuts

Cambridge-based biotechnology company Genzyme is making the first phase of job cuts Friday, with an announcement that it is eliminating 185 positions in Massachusetts.

As part of the cuts, 127 workers throughout the state were notified of layoffs Thursday, and 58 open positions will not be filled.

The company cut nearly 400 jobs worldwide and plans to eliminate 1,000 jobs by the end of next year.
