Broken Pipe, Sinkhole Snarls Mass. Highway

Crews are working around the clock to patch up a water main break that has disrupted traffic on busy Route 1 in Norwood.

The break in the 14-inch pipe early Sunday opened up a gaping hole in the southbound side of the highway and left many nearby businesses without water for part of the day.

One lane remained closed on Monday as crews work to repair the underground pipe and patch a huge sinkhole.

The northbound side of the highway was not impacted.
