President Obama's tax cut deal may go to the Senate before the weekend. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said his fellow Democrats are poring over the bill and considering possible changes. Debate could start "within a day or two," he said Wednesday.

WBUR's Bob Oakes spoke with his Massachusetts congressional colleague, Rep. Jim McGovern, in Washington, D.C., during Thursday's Morning Edition. McGovern said he won't support extending tax cuts to the wealthy.

"The president needs to know that his base in the Democratic caucus shouldn't be taken for granted," the Worcester Democrat said. "If you want our votes, then you need to work with us on some of these deals."
