Former Refugee, Lynn Resident Receives Human Rights Award

A local human rights activist is receiving a national honor. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will award
Sarah Cleto Rial of Lynn the Eleanor Roosevelt Human Rights Award Friday.

Rial said her work as program director of the Boston-based nonprofit My Sister's Keeper helps women in Sudan rebuild their communities.

"We are supporting the education for these girls, and this is our hope: that these women will grow up to be the next generation of women leaders inside Sudan," Cleto Rial said.

Rial is a native of Sudan. She resettled in Lynn 11 years ago after the United Nations granted her refugee status.

This program aired on December 10, 2010. The audio for this program is not available.
