Mass. Speaker DeLeo Snowed Out Of Biotech Talk

Mother Nature snuffed out plans for House Speaker Robert DeLeo to address Massachusetts biotechnology executives.

DeLeo was scheduled to deliver the keynote address Thursday at the annual MassBio Policy Leadership Breakfast at Boston's Omni Parker House Hotel. His planned focus was how changes in the state and federal health care laws could affect the industry.

But board Chairman Geoff Cox announced at the outset that DeLeo would be absent following a storm that brought heavy winds and over six inches of snow to downtown Boston.

DeLeo has worked with Gov. Deval Patrick, a fellow Democrat, to encourage the growth of the biotech business sector in Massachusetts.

Patrick plans more national and international travel this year to try to lure even more companies to the state.

This program aired on January 27, 2011. The audio for this program is not available.
