Two Boston city councilors are joining in on the call to build a statue to honor Celtics legend and civil rights activist Bill Russell.

City Councilor Ayanna Pressley said the effort was renewed by President Obama's call for a statue of Russell while awarding him the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

"This is going to be a long process, but we're in it for the long haul," said Pressley. "We really believe in it. We have statues for Bobby Orr and Ted Williams and Red Auerbach, and it's high time that Bill Russell have one as well."

Pressley said she expects unanimous support when she and Councilor John Connolly introduce the proposal on the City Council floor Wednesday night.
