2 Boston Teens Face Arraignment In Bus Driver Beating

Two teenagers are facing arraignment in Roxbury Thursday, accused of allegedly beating a bus driver after he asked one of them to put out a cigarette, causing the bus to crash into a building.

Authorities say 19-year-old Michael Baptista and 18-year-old Felix Garcia were arrested and are charged with interfering with a bus driver and assault and battery on a public employee. They are scheduled to be arraigned Thursday in Roxbury District Court.

Five people were hurt in the Monday incident, including the driver and Garcia, whose foot was trapped under a wheel when the bus slammed into a building.

Police say the incident was sparked when the driver asked someone to put out a cigarette. Smoking is prohibited on Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority buses. The driver landed in the hospital.
