Mass. National Guardsman Laid To Rest

A 26-year-old Massachusetts Army National Guard soldier from Rhode Island who was fatally injured in Afghanistan is being remembered as a loving father and dedicated soldier.

A funeral was held Thursday in Pawtucket for Spc. Dennis Poulin, who died March 31 of injuries received when his armored vehicle overturned.

His sister Jennifer spoke at St. Teresa's Church about her brother's love for family, especially his 5-year-old son. Poulin is also survived by his parents and another sister. Poulin lived in Pawtucket most of his life, graduating from Tolman High School in 2004. .

Among those attending were Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee and Maj. Gen. Joseph Carter of the Massachusetts National Guard, who praised Poulin's example of service.

Poulin was buried at Saint Ann's Cemetery in Cranston.
