Inmate Escapes From Mass. Prison
A Springfield man serving time on weapons convictions has escaped from a minimum security prison in Massachusetts.
A prisons spokeswoman says 24-year-old Tamik Kirkland was determined to be missing from MCI-Shirley shortly after 7:30 a.m. Monday.
State and local police as well as the Department of Correction's fugitive apprehension unit are looking for Kirkland.
The department said Kirkland is serving a 21/2- to four-year sentence that started Oct. 14, 2009. He would have been eligible for parole next February with a release date in August 2013.
When captured he will be placed in a more secure facility and could face additional charges.
