New Bedford Closes Beaches For Water Testing

New Bedford health officials are closing the city's beaches as a precaution to make sure the water is free of contamination after a heavy weekend rainfall.

The health department is collecting water samples Monday and expects to have results on Tuesday. Beaches will reopen when they are found to be safe for swimmers.

The area got more than an inch of rainfall, and there's concern the runoff might have caused higher bacteria levels.
