Mass. Businesses Have Mixed Feelings, Index Says

A survey of Massachusetts businesses shows mixed feelings about the economy.

The Associated Industries of Massachusetts Business Confidence Index shows that some local businesses have been doing very well recently, but AIM's Andre Mayer says even those firms feel uncertain about the national economy.

"The level of uncertainty going forward makes them reluctant, in particular, to hire people," Mayer said.

The survey was conducted before the compromise legislation to raise the federal debt ceiling and Friday's Standard and Poor's downgrading of the U.S.' credit rating.
