Car Driver Shot In Broad Daylight In Lawrence

Lawrence police say a Reading man driving through the city was shot by his passenger, who then ran to the driver's side, pulled the victim out of the vehicle, jumped behind the wheel, and sped off.

Christopher Fischer was fatally shot once in the chest and had his leg broken by the fleeing vehicle on Monday afternoon.

The suspect remains at large.

Chief John Romero said investigators are not ruling out that the killing could be drug-related.

Witnesses could not believe what they were seeing. Tow truck driver Jose Maldonado tells The Eagle-Tribune that he ran to the victim, who was still alive after getting pulled from the vehicle.
