Airplane Crashes Near Provincetown, Mass.

One person has been killed and a second seriously injured in a late night plane crash in Provincetown.

Stanley J. Wisniewski, 48, of Falmouth was pronounced dead at the scene. The adult woman passenger, Tamar Levy, 47, also of Falmouth, was airlifted to a Boston hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

State police say the single-engine Piper PA-28 went down about 200 yards into the woods south of the runway at the west end of the airport shortly after taking off and banking to the left after 11 p.m. Wednesday.

The pilot of a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter in the area witnessed the crash, and landed at the airfield to assist in rescue efforts.

A Federal Aviation Administration official says the plane was registered to Stanley Wisniewski of Falmouth.
