Rain, Mushy Snow, Strike Massachusetts

Massachusetts residents faced a messy commute Thursday.

Heavy rain lashed the Boston area and southern portions of the state early Thursday morning, while a wet, mushy snow layered northern areas of Middlesex, Worcester and Essex counties.

Snow in western portions of the state is expected to turn to rain later in the day as temperatures climb into the 40s.

Accumulations are expected to be no more than one to three inches.

The entire state was buffeted by strong winds gusting up to 45 miles per hour.

State police are reporting some minor accidents.

The National Weather Service has issued a coastal flood warning until the afternoon.
