Major League Baseball isn't very happy about how a new documentary portrays its recruitment tactics in the Dominican Republic.

Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine produced the documentary, which alleges that the MLB used coercion to recruit players as young as age 16.

The film, "Ballplayer: Pelotero," screened Wednesday at the Coolidge Corner Theatre, where Valentine was all smiles. He says the documentary portrays the way that Major League Baseball and the Dominican Republican have come together.

WBUR's All Things Considered host Sacha Pfeiffer spoke with Only a Game's Bill Littlefield about the documentary and the controversy it's generating.

This program aired on July 12, 2012.
