2nd Man Charged In Haverhill Double Homicide

A second man has pleaded not guilty to murder and other charges in connection with a home invasion in Haverhill that left two people dead and two others injured.

Prosecutors said 25-year-old Jonas Rogers was arraigned Wednesday on charges including murder, home invasion and assault. He is held without bail. Rogers was arrested Tuesday.

Juan Carlos Sanchez of Haverhill is being held without bail after pleading not guilty on Monday to the same charges. Both men return to court Aug. 30.

Police say the home invasion that left 19-year-old William Melchionda dead July 23 was aimed at stealing drugs and cash. Authorities say the second man killed, 20-year-old Anddy Guzman, was one of the home invaders and was struck by a stray bullet.

A third man is charged with trying to help Sanchez flee police.
