Lawrence House Explosion Injures Man and Teenage Son

Fire investigators are trying to determine what caused an explosion that injured a man and his 13-year-old son in Lawrence.

Officials say the father and son suffered serious burns when the blast ripped through the basement of a home on Woodland Street on Saturday afternoon. They're being treated at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

The victim's names and hometowns haven't been released, and their conditions haven't been disclosed. Officials say the father was doing maintenance work at the home and he and his son didn't live there.

Fire officials believe the explosion was an accident.

The Eagle-Tribune reports the home is owned by Lawrence police officer Gary Yancey, who testified last month before a grand jury investigating alleged criminal wrongdoing by Mayor William Lantigua and members of his administration.
