Former Newton Teacher Faces Sentencing In La. For Child Porn

BOSTON — A former Newton Public Schools teacher is expected to face sentencing in a federal courtroom in Louisiana on Tuesday.

Last year, David Ettlinger pleaded guilty to charges stemming from his involvement in a global child pornography ring.

Ettlinger had taught at Newton’s Underwood Elementary School for 12 years.

Suffolk District Attorney spokesman Jake Wark says Ettlinger will face charges in Massachusetts, as well.

"While we have been in contact with federal authorities with regard to their case, our prosecution here is independent," Wark said, "and we expect it to move forward no matter what happens in Louisiana."

Wark says prosecutors are putting together a sentencing recommendation for the crimes Ettlinger allegedly committed in Massachusetts.

"Certainly he's not a flight risk now that he's in federal custody, so we have the luxury of taking our time in crafting a comprehensively appropriate sentencing recommendation."
