Boston Mayor Thomas Menino, who announced Thursday that he will not seek reelection, was known for attending events and shaking hands with residents across the city.

According to a Boston Globe poll released this week, 49 percent of Bostonians say they've personally met the mayor.

"It's amazing because he's been mayor since I've been born," said Keelan Sanford, 20, of Roxbury. "I met him once in elementary school ... he came to my elementary school and he basically just told us to stay in school, be focused, you know, don't ever give up your dreams."

As Menino embarks on his last few months as mayor of Boston, we're asking area residents: Have you ever met the mayor? Share your stories and photos in the comments below.
