DA: Mass. Man Fatally Shot By Officer In Arrest Attempt

The Middlesex district attorney and Ashland police chief say an officer has fatally shot an armed man while trying to arrest him at an Ashland home.

DA Marian Ryan and Chief Stephen Doherty have identified the man killed Tuesday morning as 27-year-old Andrew Stigliano.

The officials say the confrontation began when an Ashland officer saw Stigliano and attempted to arrest him on outstanding warrants. They said Stigliano ran into the house on Metropolitan Avenue.

When more officers tried to arrest him inside the house, the authorities said, Stigliano pointed a shotgun at them, and an officer fired.

Stigliano was pronounced dead at the scene.

The district attorney is investigating the police use of force, as is usual. Police say their investigation is continuing.
