State: Mosquitoes Slightly More Than Average

The state Department of Public Health says the mosquito population this year is only slightly above average.

The Enterprise reports that the slight increase comes despite rain that's about three times what's normal in June.

Jennifer Dacey, the superintendent for the Bristol County Mosquito Control Project, said it will not be a good summer and is expected to keep health officials busy.

The state announced last week that the first West Nile virus finding was spotted in a mosquito sample taken from Whitman on June 25.
