19-Year-Old Springfield Woman Fatally Shot

A Springfield man is headed to court to face murder and gun charges in connection with the fatal shooting of his girlfriend.

Police say 22-year-old Terrance Brown is scheduled to be arraigned Friday in Springfield District Court in connection with the shooting Thursday of 19-year-old Tyshianna Atkins.

Police say Brown shot Atkins in the chest in a Federal Street apartment, then dragged her body outside and left it on the sidewalk.

Brown was arrested at about 8:15 p.m. Thursday, about five hours after the victim was found. She was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

It was the city's 11th homicide of the year.
