Suspect Dead, 2 Officers Injured In Dorchester Shooting

Boston's police commissioner has identified a man killed in a shootout with undercover narcotics officers as a 21-year-old Brockton man.

Commissioner Edward Davis said Wednesday night police are still looking for a second man involved in the incident in which two veteran officers suffered non-life-threatening leg wounds.

Davis said officers Harry Jean and Terry Cotton were doing surveillance in the Dorchester neighborhood at about 1:45 p.m. when they confronted two men acting suspiciously. He said the officers identified themselves as police, and one of the men pulled a gun and began firing.

The officers fired back, mortally wounding Roudy Hendicks, who was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Davis said it's not known if the second man was armed.

District Attorney Daniel Conley's office is investigating, as is customary with all officer-involved shootings.
